Pho 33

Something that I think surprises a lot of people who are unfamiliar with Utah’s food scene is that there is a TON of Vietnamese restaurants in the Salt Lake Valley. Given the demographic that makes up the majority of the state, I think this fact is pretty shocking. And the best part is that all of those restaurants are so good!

A while ago my friend told me about her favorite pho restaurant Pho 33 and wanted to go for her birthday with me, so we went! Unfortunately, we didn’t check their hours beforehand so when we showed up they were closed (it was a Monday)! So with our heads hung low in disappointment we left, but we returned a few weeks later and I was very happy we did.

This is the rare beef and brisket pho and for $11 it was the perfect meal. I’m someone who can eat a lot and a small is the perfect amount of soup, noodles, and beef. The broth has a great balance of beef and herb flavors. The meat and toppings are all good quality. Pho is so simple and if the restaurant has good flavor in their soup it’s pretty hard to mess it up truly. Pho 33’s pho is the perfect bowl of comforting soup.

My most recent visit was my second time visiting Pho 33 and we didn’t get the Vietnamese egg rolls this time but the first time we went we got them and they are SO good. Great flavor, a great crisp to them, and the sauce they come with was very delicious.

My one qualm with Pho 33 was the service. The service here isn’t a dealbreaker to not come here or anything like that but if you’re coming here for the first time I wouldn’t expect stellar service. It felt like we were being rushed to order and when I misspoke, our server honestly made me feel stupid for saying the wrong thing. The food comes out fast and hot which is good but when you needed something after the food came it was kind of difficult to flag someone down. Both times I’ve gone we’ve had to wait a couple minutes but we always got the timing down perfect enough where we weren’t waiting for too long. If going for dinner, and you show up a little bit before or around 6pm you shouldn’t expect too long of a wait, anything after than that, prepare for a line of people waiting to be seated.
